32 years with my wife, and throughout the years our respective career aspirations have waxed and waned. We have always maintained separate bank accounts, most utilities are in her name, and I don't think either one of us gives a rip who pays for what.
"Hey - money is tight - can you cover the electric bill?" "No way I can get the rent right now - will you take care of it?"
Works for us - and seems ideal - no fragile male ego here...
