Andrew — I’ve been reading your book the past week (2 thumbs up, btw) and I vacillate on UBI. My fear (which you address) is that it simply raises the floor for various goods/services that are necessary as our mutual friend (unfettered capitalism) simply sees more opportunity to squeeze the “normal” people.

Does simply supply/demand keep the slum lord from raising rents in lockstep? Do fast food prices go up as they jobs they provide go down? Netflix/Amazon Prime? Shoot, with all those out-of-work young men getting an extra $1k in their pockets, what do those subscription prices look like?

My hope is that UBI does exactly what you propose and frees us to explore w/o having the extreme economic weight dragging many/most of us down…
