Anyone can say after the fact that something is a scam - but I've always been vocal in pointing out that (mostly) all they did was take whatever profit taxi drivers were making and concentrating into the hands of a few early investors. Wealth was not created, it was funneled from a larger group into a smaller one.
As others have pointed out - the vast majority of folks undervalue the wear and tear/maintenance/depreciation costs when using their own vehicles - same with those who rent on Turo. Sure, I'd love to rent my (non-existent) Ferrari out for $600/day and make a couple grand extra $$ every month. Problem is when I'm pulling in around $1/mile and my costs are closer to $2, things don't work out they way I'd hoped. Tires, unexpected repairs, Ferrari service - all have costs that are easily overlooked...
