Berny, I was all set to dismiss the whole piece as I still can’t wrap my brain around the hypocrisy I see — but your last paragraph brought everything together for me. It became clear that you’re shooting for a rather nuanced position that will be tough for folks to take because they (and I too) have such a visceral reaction against 45.

Essentially — policy outcomes should not be used as a blinders — character, integrity, intelligence, curiosity, accountability, strategic thinking, etc are more important.

I do find it sad that many evangelicals can be so binary in their thinking, and yet ignore the life/teachings of Jesus as related to those in need. Feels more and more that a christian taliban is what they really want, although they won’t see the connection or the irony.
