“Capitalism” (see, I can put it in quotes too!) is like a lot of good ideas/principles that fall apart once you get out on the fringes. It has done a lot of good for the world, but once common sense goes out the window in slavish devotion to a perceived ideal its no longer an element of progress but of destruction.

When I talk about fringes — think about this argument against same-sex marriages-”What’s next, marriage with animals? Once we start down this slope there’s no going back.” Sounds ridiculous, right? But we hear it all the time as if that’s supposed to shut down any progress.

For some reason though, ANY mention of anything less than unfettered capitalism (which we don’t have, btw) is seen as an attack on democracy itself (which we also don’t have, btw) and merely by uttering the magic word “Socialism” the discussion is ended.

(Big leap here) Imagine if the arguments were flipped and all discussion of limiting any form of marriage rights (plants/animals included) got shot down as an assault on the “freedoms” that are championed by fools in red hats.

Crazy, huh?
