Good piece, and even though we've been attending the same church for 16 years, I agree with damn near everything you wrote.
The bit I highlighted about "vote biblically" meaning something completely different to nearly half the country was spot on.

Mike Johnson, when asked about his position on nearly anything, says "it's all in there" as he smugly points to his Bible.
No Mike, it's really not. If it were that simple we wouldn't have 45000 different Christian denominations in the world. If it was that simple you wouldn't have 1/2 the country in mourning while the other 1/2 grins like idiots.
Although, if the "simple" message is love - then yes, it is that simple. Not punishment, not retribution, and not some notion of exclusivity. Start with that simple concept, Mike Johnson and see where that leads us.
