Got my Dad's keys 2 days ago! It was long time coming, but we were fortunate that there was nothing more than a few ($$) scraps and bumps the last 18 months.

Mom passed 5 years ago, then 6 months later he abruptly sold the family home (50 years in that place) and moved into a retirement community. The first 2 years were extremely hard, and the mobility afforded him by having a car helped considerably. Like many people, the transition took time and he has finally accepted that he won't live forever.

Strange to not hear him making plans for 10 or 20 years in the future - but grateful for the acceptance of his situation. Ironically enough, it's freed us up to enjoy what time he has left - but that's a whole 'nuther story!
