Great piece, Tessa - and also profoundly depressing. Here in the US, the combination of irrational hubris, selfishness masquerading as "freedom" and contempt of education doesn't paint of rosy picture for the concept of self-governance. As a people we are idiots and far too often elect idiots to govern us.
