Had to add a follow-up - I'd been working with a fabulous consulting group for nearly 3 years and was getting the itch - really mixed messaging on my promotion (that never happened), coupled with a bunch of other factors that didn't amount to squat individually - death by a thousand cuts and all.

Saw a role at a local fortune 50 company that looked like it had been copied verbatim from current resume and reached out to a friend who worked there - "send me your resume, and I'll make sure it gets in front of the right person". (She's one of the best people I know, full stop)

Recruiter finally got back with her and said that I lacked a leadership background (ran my own business for 10 years, and had 5 direct reports in my most recent gig - but what do I know?) - so I wasn't a fit.

Shrugged my shoulders and went back to work.

A month later I got a call from a recruiter at the same company who said they'd come across my resume and thought I was a perfect fit for - you guessed it - the exact same req!

Interview with the senior director on Monday - 4 more interviews that week - and a job offer that was 25% above my current salary was in my hands the following Monday.

Yup - still a game - sometimes you win, and sometimes you lose - just gotta keep playin'
