I am often in the minority and usually flat-out wrong — however I’ve had a fair amount of EV experience (as a user) going back several years and my response to every Tesla I’ve driven has been “meh”. Please don’t get me wrong, as they are all amazing bits of tech and what has been accomplished is flat-out astounding.
However
The Jaguar, the Audi, the Porsche all feel aspirational while the Teslas all feel like practical choices. And by “practical”, I don’t mean “100% reliable-never-leave-me-stranded”, but rather “yeah, the interior feels cheap, something’s bound to snap off in my hand, and the stereo seems to work differently every time I go somewhere but at least I’m saving the planet”.
For $70k-$100k I want to feel like I’m on top of the world. For practical, give me the new Kia, Hyundai or the other offerings from Volvo and VW coming out in the next 12 months. The tesla feels like it was built by a cellphone company that can’t wait to take the steering wheel out of my hands.
Flame away, but give the new Jaguar a spin before you do.
