I have almost given up on our country fixing some of the real issues we do face. Income inequality is/has been growing for too long as the big corporations keep pushing the limits of how much shit their remaining workers will take before either quitting or dying.
We don't (yet) need more people starting small businesses that will fail until we dismantle the monopolies that control our consumer economy. As the large corporations pay less and less tax while grinding their suppliers for more favorable deals, the small businesses we have are already being gobbled up or ground into dust.
Progressive taxes and enforcement of the regulations we have against monopolies is the only way to turn the tide. It should get harder to grow larger rather than easier - like a reverse weight-loss program. For most folks, the first 10 pounds is attainable, while the next 5 is just as hard. The next 5 becomes almost impossible except for a very small group. Amazon increases market share just by sneezing now - sometimes I wish I could lose weight just as easily...
