I lived alone on a number of occasions - however my wife (of 29 years) moved directly from her parent's house to ours.
Definitely forced me to grow, although I believe she was in a pretty good place. (She still leaves her clothes on the floor of the bedroom, but I'm not sure that living alone would have cured her of that habit!)
