I share your basic views, but not your optimism - but hope I am flat out wrong.

If Kevin McCarthy pushed a button on his desk labeled "trash the global economy" - the squabbling children in the house would sputter "Obama! Hillary's emails! Hunter Biden's laptop!" and their constituents would re elect them without blinking, convinced that those liberal-socialist-communist democrats hated America and we're killing it.
We are not smart enough as a country to run a Dairy Queen (no offense to anyone in food service management) - much less govern ourselves...
