I've been laid off twice and was being put on a PIP and quit almost immediately a third time. Here's the thing-they we're all shit jobs with shit companies. All three times it was like being in a relationship you knew was ending - you just didn't know who was going to break up with who first.
The PIP time was almost comical. I'd been trying to have a weekly 1:1 with my supervisor for over a year - but she would either cancel or just not show up every single time. I eventually gave up - but a couple months later I saw an invite for a 1:1 with her. I accepted, but gave it a 10% chance of actually happening.
When the time came, I logged onto Zoom (yeah - she called a virtual meeting even though we went into the same office and sat 10' apart) and heard talking. I figured there were overlapping calls, so I just said "hey - guess I'm a minute early-don't let me disturb you".
"Oh, no worries - actually I've asked Katy from HR to join us"
Bitch never added Katy to the meeting so I wouldn't be tipped off. The good news was that I wasn't laid off - it was only a PIP that would require me meeting on a weekly basis with my supervisor (yep-same person) for "coaching".
Funny thing was - I had a job offer in hand, but was able to negotiate a small severance package in exchange for not being "difficult" - I told them we were all adults and knew exactly what was happening here.
That felt good - and there isn't a day that goes by when I'm not grateful for being out of there - or the other 2 places.
