Love the idea of the supreme court, but the execution has always been political. I get it - the US Constitution isn't a huge document and it seems (on the surface) that one could gather together our best/brightest legal minds to correctly interpret those words for our time.
Unfortunately it's like folks reading the bible - you can twist enough arguments into knots and justify nearly any position. (Seriously - corporations as people? WTF?)
Laws change when society changes, with our "supreme" court following only at the very end (if we're lucky). This gives me a bit of hope, as I believe society HAS changed in the last few decades with all this fake christian/taliban behavior the last desperate gasp of a world view that has already died. (A bit of hope at least - more like irrational optimism I realize...)
