Moderation in all things — including moderation

I would argue that anything that requires such single-minded/fanatical focus to achieve is (arguably) healthy for a small set of folks. I would further argue that many/most of the Fire devotees are addicted to the process rather than the objectified result.

Probably just semantics, but I like the idea of “financial independence” rather than “retirement” as the former feels liberating while the latter smacks of winding down one’s life.

My uncle retired 5 times, complete with parties(!). He once said that retirement didn’t mean he got to sit around or play golf everyday, but that he could come in late and go home early if he wanted to — he was an eager participant in whatever venture he found himself, and no one could tell him what to do or how to do it. (Except his wife…)
