One of the best pieces I've read here in a long time.

I love the notion you touched on in the last paragraph about those precious moments that only exist in the memories of the few who experienced them - and likely would have different memories if they ever compared notes. (Reminded me of Rutger Hauer's "tears in the rain" speech at the end of Blade Runner which knocks me flat every time I hear it)
