Spot on - two thoughts:

1) Everyone should be forced to wade through Matthew Brady's photos and be reminded what devastation truly looks like. Cities reduced to rubble, bodies lying broken in fields on top of one another, etc. War is horror on a scale none of them can even begin to comprehend.

2) We don't split along neat geographical barriers anymore - Texas - a "deep red" state is (according to Pew research) 21% Independent, 39% Republican, and 40% Democrat - so which side do they fight on? I think we realize that they would be part of the Confederacy with a minority government at war with over half its citizens. Not even MTG could make sense out of this - although we all know she would try (and fail badly)
