We own a model S - which is the #4 car in our family out of 4 cars. Sure, when it was new back in 2012 you could call it a luxury car compared to other EVs on the market - but no one who'd ever driven a real luxury car would confuse the 2. A buddy in the industry put it best: "It's a $30k car with a $40k powertrain".
For my (play) money - Lucid has the best combo of luxury vs minimalist aesthetics. There is no substitute for quality materials, particularly when it comes to touch points - and Tesla either doesn't understand the difference, or can't afford to care. (yes, I know that Lucid is getting crushed in the marketplace - kills me...)
I love how you touched on "brand" as a reason for the stock drop. What do you think about Musk himself being the main issue behind this? Even 5 years ago he was seen by a majority as some visionary tech genius, but now there is significant negative value in his tight association with Tesla. Now that there are options on the market that provide tangible benefits, one no longer needs to worship at the altar of Musk to drive a compelling EV - and the lack of baggage with other brands is seen as a plus.
