Well - I'm a boomer and agree with many of the criticisms directed our way. Many of us benefited from a system that no longer exists - we have succeeded and pulled many of the ladders up behind us. A huge reason "kids these days" can't afford property has almost zero to do with their lack of savings habits and everything to do with skyrocketing housing costs and depressing wages to the point of indentured servitude. We saved, because there was a point and a light at the end of the tunnel. To afford the cheapest condo anywhere close to where we live, my son would need to save close to $50k. How the heck is going to do that on an income of $50k when he still needs to come up with (minimum) $1500/month for rent, $400 for car expenses (insurance + gas), $400 for food, and then hope he never has to visit the doctor.
His generation doesn't save at the same rate we did because a) they simply can't and b) the see the futility in even trying.
