Yes, Musk is an arrogant dick, he's extremely lucky his rise to power coincided with an extreme softening towards wealth accumulation in the US.

Here's the stupid thing: Musk actually done some pretty good things. He made electric cars cool for one - even the "vaunted" EV1 from GM isn't much more than a golf cart with doors and windows. He made the Model S an object of desire. SpaceX? He's definitely made space a bit more attainable and restored a bit of the cool factor that's been lost by NASA over the years.

Barry Bonds was a sure-fire hall of famer before he started taking steroids. Being "one of the best" wasn't good enough for him however, and he shattered the reputation he used to have. He was always an entitled asshole, but his arrogance and insecurities got kicked up a notch after he started juicing.

Elon is much the same. His carefully cultivated persona as a live-action Tony Stark is completed BS. His insistence on being named Tesla's founder (100% BS) doesn't change the fact that he bought in with money obtained after PayPal hit it big (another company he didn't found, but did profit from) and then pushed out the original founder) Even if he didn't create this hero worship boy cult of his - he would have been known and remembered for his contributions to the EV and Space industries. His ego however, couldn't leave it at that - I predict a similar fall from grace one day - albeit not soon enough.
